The Power of Play
Do you bring "play" into your leadership? You’ll usually hear me talk about how important it is that leaders stay calm under pressure and regulate emotions to avoid unintentional negative impacts on relationships and results. I call it the Power of Presence.
But equally important in the VUCA world, the era of disruption, is a heightened need for collaboration and innovation , so leaders also need The Power of Play.
Our experiential learning programs at The Wisdom of The Horse have demonstrated to us e the value of calm leadership very clearly because horses are super sensitive to the energy of others. By grounding, slowing down the breath, relaxing the muscles, our participants see right in front of their eyes how this shift in energy and behaviour softens the horse and they move into connection.
But what we also learn is how horses (and people) are also attracted by joy and enthusiasm. They can shift quickly from calmly doing their own thing, nibbling on the grass by themselves to being alert, curious and interested in being with us if we bring in a little playfulness.
As leaders how can you authentically connect with your inner child and bring a more playful spirit to lift the energy, invite creativity and positivity?
